RE: test post 2

Tom, Thanks. I am trying to have a map (showing the states we have visited) show up when we post. I have set map up under My Preferences and linked to the location where the map is stored but it does not show up in my posts. Any suggestions? Thanks for the help.

Slip Plate Lube

Hello, I have been using Slip Plate spray lube on our Pullrite Superglide hitch and am pleased with its performance. I am about to disassemble the hitch and clean and lube it up before winter gets here. I have no trouble getting the lube on the way tubes but the part of the hitch (sorry, don't know the name of the part)that slides back and forth on the way tubes gives me problems. I am considering getting some non-areosol Slip Plate and painting this part of the hitch. Problem is, I can't find any locally. Grainger is the only place I have been able to get the spray Slip Plate but they don't handle the non-spray. Do you have any recommendations of where to find the paint on Slip Plate? Thanks for taking time to reply.

Did I mess up?

Hello, I just completed winterizing our new 5th wheel this past weekend. Since this was my first time to winterize an RV I used several of the guides I found on this forum. I used compressed air to blow out the line because we live in northwest Louisiana and we don't experience much really cold weather. Everthing went well but I just remembered a comment about opening the low point drains when blowing out the lines. I failed to do this. Is this something I should be worried about? Thanks for taking time to reply.

RE: Mor/ryde or Superglide problem

Sirdrakejr, The problem is not completly solved but it is bearable. About the only time I get the klunking noise is when I stop fast and the king pin shifts forward in the hitch. It will usually make a noise when taking off after this happens. Part of my problem is not knowing what is an acceptable amount of noise and what is a problem. This is our first RV and we are learing as we go. Thanks goodness for this forum. Without it us new folks would be in a world of hurt. Thanks for your replys.

RE: Trailer noise

MandKfarmer, When your brakes were connected to your truck, did you have to apply the brakes before they would moan or did they moan when no brakes were applied? What did you find was causing your noise? Thanks

Trailer noise

Hello, We have developed a strange noise when pulling our trailer. We have a 2008 Jayco 34RLQS (38' long) a 2008 Chevy 2500 Duramax short bed with a Pulright Superglide hitch. The noise is something new and the best way I can describe it is that it a sort of a moaning sound. It is most noticable when backing up but it also makes the sound when starting to move forward. The noise is coming from the trailer not the truck. Has anyone experienced a strange noise like this? Thanks for taking time to reply.

RE: Mor/ryde or Superglide problem

Thanks everyone for your replys. I have moved some weight forward to increase my pin weight plus I have increased the setting on my brake controller. My problem is much better now. Thanks again.

RE: Mor/ryde or Superglide problem

It has been some time since my original post and we have tried a lot of things to resolve our clunking problem and while the problem is not as bad as it was originally we are still experiencing more noise than I think is necessary. One thing I am wondering about is that when I attach the trailer to the truck the truck saggs a few inches in the rear due to the pin weight. Do you think a few inches of sag could cause my hitch to clunk when starting off and stopping? I have not weighed the trailer so I don't know the exact pin weight but based on my contact with others who have this trailer the pin weight should be about 2,800#. The truck is an 08 Chevy 2500 Duramax short bed. Please no weight police comments. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Running A/C from house outlet

Hello, We are new to the RV world and are using this forum to get as many answers to our questions as possible. The feedback has been great and appreciated. We keep our 5th wheel in storage but when we bring it home to clean it up after a trip it would be great if we could run the air conditioner while we were working inside the trailer. I tried running an extension cord to the trailer but it looks as if our surge protector (Progressive Industries hard wired 50 amp) would not let the current into the trailer. I used a 14 gauge 15 amp cord. I am wondering if I were to use a 12 gauge cord if I could run my air. I am pretty much electrically challenged so I may be missing something simple here. I have looked in the booklet that came with the A/C but there is no mention of what the electrical specs were. The trailer is a 2008 Jayco Designer 34RLQS if that makes any difference. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

RE: Covering the cap of a 5th wheel

Thanks everone for the replys. I am unable to put the trailer into the storage so the rear is exposed so that is not an option. The Saran Wrap is a thought but it will only keep the rain off of the trailer. It would still be exposed to the sun. I am still open to other options. Thanks again

Covering the cap of a 5th wheel

Hello, We have recently purchased a new Jayco Designer 5th wheel and after much looking we have been able to find a covered storage space. The problem is the trailer is about 4 feet longer than the cover so the cap is exposed to the elements. I have searched this and other forums and the general feeling is that it is better to not use a cover due to the damages they cause. So I have been looking at options to protect the cap but I am having little luck. I have considered getting a 15 X 20 foot tarp and having someone sew foam on one side of the tarp so that there would be a soft pad between the tarp and the trailer. I would appreciate your opinion on this thought. I am also very open for any other suggestions. This forum has been a great source of information and I hope that some of you will be kind enough to reply. Thanks in advance.

RE: Shreveport, LA to Austin, TX

Thanks for the replys but again my main concern is locating diesel fuel stops that will accomodate a large fifth wheel. Charlie

Shreveport, LA to Austin, TX

Hello, We have driven from Shreveport to Austin many times by traveling I-20 west from Shreveport to I-35, just east of Dallas, then taking 35 south to Austin. We took our 5th wheel last time and there was a great deal of construction for most of the way on 35. I am considering either taking I-20 west to Marshall then taking Hwy 79 to Round Rock or taking I-20 west to Tyler then taking Hwy 31 to Waco. We have gone both of these routes before but never pulling a trailer. My concern is finding places to buy diesel. Has anyone ever taken either of these routes while pulling a big trailer. We are too tall to get into regular service stations and I really don't like the idea of having to drop the trailer to fuel up. Thanks for the advice.

RE: Paint for hitch

fordsooperdootydieselsmoker, Did you use flat or gloss paint? Did you use a primer? Thanks

Paint for hitch

Hello, We purchased a Pulrite superglide hitch in April and while I really like the hitch I am having problems with rust on places where the hitch has lost some of its paint. I would appreciate advice on how to prep and paint the hitch. Would the hitch hold up better against rust if I kept it covered? Thanks in advance for the advice.
